Around 200 Contract Workers at Namo Hospital Go on Strike Over Low Pay, Delayed Salaries and Job Insecurity
Around 200 contract workers at Namo Hospital, formerly known as Vinoba Bhave Civil Hospital, have gone on strike in Silvassa, raising serious concerns over low wages, delayed salaries and lack of job security. The hospital, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is one of the key healthcare institutions in the region.
Workers stated that many of them have been serving for long periods ranging from 10 to 28 years. Despite this, their monthly salaries remain between ₹9,000 and ₹10,000. According to them, there has been no salary increase for more than 15 years, and no revision has been made since 2014.
A major concern highlighted by the workers is the delay in salary payments. In several cases, payments have reportedly been delayed by months, creating financial hardship for families who depend entirely on this income. Workers travelling daily from remote areas such as Khanvel, Sili and nearby regions said that travel expenses further reduce their already limited earnings.
The workers, mostly employed as contract-based Multi-Tasking Staff, perform essential duties including cleaning, patient assistance and maintenance work. Despite their role in the daily functioning of the hospital, they continue to work without permanent status, benefits or social security.
Workers claim that they have approached authorities multiple times and have also taken legal steps seeking regularisation and fair wages. However, they allege that their demands have not been implemented so far.
With no resolution in sight, the workers have now taken the step of going on strike. Their demands include timely salary payments, salary revision and permanent employment status. The situation is being closely monitored as it may affect hospital services if the issue continues.

सिलवासा स्थित नमो अस्पताल (पूर्व में विनोबा भावे सिविल अस्पताल) में कार्यरत लगभग 200 कॉन्ट्रैक्ट कर्मचारी हड़ताल पर चले गए हैं। यह अस्पताल प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी द्वारा उद्घाटित किया गया था और क्षेत्र का एक प्रमुख स्वास्थ्य केंद्र है।
कर्मचारियों का कहना है कि वे 10 से 28 वर्षों से सेवा दे रहे हैं, लेकिन उनकी सैलरी ₹9,000 से ₹10,000 के बीच ही है। पिछले 15 वर्षों से वेतन में कोई बढ़ोतरी नहीं हुई है और 2014 के बाद से कोई संशोधन नहीं किया गया है।
कर्मचारियों ने सैलरी में लगातार देरी की भी शिकायत की है। कई मामलों में सैलरी महीनों तक नहीं मिलती, जिससे परिवारों पर आर्थिक दबाव बढ़ जाता है। खानवेल, सिली और आसपास के क्षेत्रों से आने वाले कर्मचारियों के लिए यात्रा खर्च भी एक बड़ी समस्या है।
ये कर्मचारी अस्पताल में सफाई, मरीजों की देखभाल और रखरखाव जैसे महत्वपूर्ण कार्य करते हैं, फिर भी उन्हें स्थायी नौकरी, लाभ या सामाजिक सुरक्षा नहीं मिलती।
कर्मचारियों का कहना है कि उन्होंने कई बार अधिकारियों से संपर्क किया और कानूनी कदम भी उठाए, लेकिन अब तक कोई ठोस कार्रवाई नहीं हुई है।
समस्या के समाधान न होने के कारण अब कर्मचारियों ने हड़ताल का रास्ता अपनाया है। उनकी मांगों में समय पर सैलरी, वेतन वृद्धि और स्थायी नौकरी शामिल है।

સેલેરીમાં વારંવાર વિલંબ થવાને કારણે કર્મચારીઓ પર આર્થિક બોજ વધે છે। ખાનવેલ અને સિલી જેવા દૂર વિસ્તારોમાંથી આવતા કર્મચારીઓ માટે મુસાફરીનો ખર્ચ પણ મોટી સમસ્યા છે।
કર્મચારીઓ હોસ્પિટલમાં સફાઈ, દર્દીઓની સહાય અને જાળવણી જેવા મહત્વપૂર્ણ કામ કરે છે, છતાં તેમને કાયમી નોકરી અથવા લાભ મળતા નથી।
કર્મચારીઓએ અનેક વખત રજૂઆત કરી છે અને કાનૂની પગલાં લીધા છે, છતાં હજુ સુધી કોઈ અસરકારક કાર્યવાહી થઈ નથી।
હવે કર્મચારીઓએ સમયસર સેલેરી, પગારમાં વધારો અને કાયમી નોકરીની માંગ સાથે હડતાળ શરૂ કરી છે।
